Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 10, 2016) – Jack Dover registered a pair of seventh-place finishes last weekend during the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.
Dover opened the marquee event at Knoxville Raceway last Friday by qualifying 23rd quickest on his preliminary night.
“From when we pulled up and drawing No. 56 I thought our weekend was not going to be very good,” he said. “I went out for time trials and qualified 23rd. From there I thought we weren’t even going to be capable of making the A Main.”
Dover rebounded in the heat race to finish second, which locked him into the 14th starting position for the 20-lap main event.
“Every time we went on the track we changed the car quite a bit,” he said. “It kept getting better. I think that showed with how we moved forward in the feature.”
Dover charged to a seventh-place result. That ranked him 21st in overall points, which was only one spot out of locking into Saturday’s main event.
“We did some more adjusting and moved forward the next night,” he said. “We were focusing on shocks. We kept going a little more aggressive with it.”
Dover led the distance of Saturday’s B Main to earn a transfer into the 20th starting position for the 25-lap feature.
“We went out for the B Main and after that we knew what the track conditions were going to do,” he said. “We changed our stagger and went more aggressive with the shocks. From the B Main to the A Main we changed the car quite a bit. Honestly I thought we had a good car. I set a goal to get a top 10 and to come out with a seventh-place finish is great. And with one more lap we could have had a top five.”
Dover rallied from 20th to post a seventh-place finish, which was his fourth career top 10 at the event. It also garnered the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
“You’re racing against the best cars in the country,” he said. “When you can come through a field like that it’s pretty respectable.”
