Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (Aug. 4, 2015) – Jack Dover returned to a familiar spot last Friday at I-80 Speedway.
“I’ve always felt like I can win with the ASCS National Tour,” he said. “Last year we didn’t accomplish that goal so it felt great to get back to Victory Lane with the series last weekend.”
Dover picked up his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph since 2013 on Friday at the high-banked track. It marked his eighth career national win.
“I had won an ASCS National Tour feature each year that I ran with the series until last year,” he said. “That bothered me not to pick up a win with the series so it meant a lot to me and my team to get back where we belong last weekend.”
Dover kicked off the doubleheader on Thursday by winning his heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the second-highest number – seven – to start the feature on the inside of the fourth row.
Dover maintained a top 10 throughout the first portion of the race before he slid to a stop to avoid crashing into a car that had spun in turns three and four.
“We were committed to the top and at the last second another driver crashed in front of us,” he said. “I had nowhere to go and looped the car to avoid running into him and destroying our car. It was a bummer because I felt like we had a top-five car.”
Dover rebounded from the back to finish 14th.
He returned to I-80 Speedway on Friday for the Road to Knoxville finale, which Dover began by advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race. That earned him the final spot in the feature redraw and this time it worked in his favor.
“We pulled the No. 2 to start on the outside of the front row for the main event,” he said. “That was huge. The track was tough to pass on so getting a front row starting position gave us a big opportunity.”
Dover took advantage as he quickly took the top spot.
“I knew I needed to stay out front and keep clean air on my car,” he said. “One bobble and I figured everyone would be all over me for the lead.”
Dover maintained the lead throughout the 30-lap feature and he held on following a late-race restart to record his 11th victory of the season.
“That certainly gives us a big boost heading into the 360 Knoxville Nationals this week,” he said. “We’re heading into this weekend knowing we have a chance to win.”
Dover will compete this Thursday through Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the 25th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.
