Dover Narrowly Misses 360 Knoxville Nationals A Main Start by One Position

Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 8, 2018) – Jack Dover was sidelined early during a pair of marquee sprint car events in Iowa throughout the last week.

The action began last Friday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, which hosted the 28th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank. Dover opened his preliminary night by qualifying 18th quickest before he won a heat race from the third starting position.

“We went out really late for qualifying so to put down the 18th quickest lap was solid,” he said. “Then moving forward like we did in the heat race was good. That moved us up to 10th in points and we thought we’d be in a good position in the A Main, but it didn’t play out. We just didn’t have the best setup on the car.”

Dover battled for a top 10 throughout much of the race before ending 14th. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row in the B Main on Saturday.

“They only took four out of the B Main and there was some tough competition starting in front and behind us,” he said. “Unfortunately, the track wasn’t super conducive for a lot of passing. We ran the top most of the race and hit the bottom a couple of times. We moved forward, but ended up one spot out of the main event.”

Dover advanced to place fifth, which missed a spot into the 360 Knoxville Nationals A Main by only one position.

Dover returned to action on Tuesday at Southern Iowa Speedway during the Sage Fruit Ultimate ASCS Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Company with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com. He finished where he started – second – in a heat race, which earned enough points to make the feature redraw. Dover pulled the No. 3 during the random redraw to line up third in the A Main, but his night was short-lived as he had to exit the track early.

“Coming off turn two I got into the back of someone and knocked my nose wing down just a couple of laps in,” he said. “We went to the work area under a caution and my guys straightened the wing out, but it collapsed soon after we started racing again so I pulled off.”

Dover will take this weekend off before resuming competition on Aug. 17 at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., and Aug. 18 at Off Road Raceway in Norfolk, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints and Midwest Sprint Touring Series, and Aug. 19 at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
