Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 24, 2019) – Jack Dover managed a neat feat during his final three starts of the season driving for Rick and Chris Bowers.
The team qualified for the A Main each night during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway, making Dover the only driver to make the main event during all three nights of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event each of the last three years without using a provisional.
“That’s a pretty cool stat,” he said. “The Bowers and I have had great success at the Jackson Nationals and the Hockett/McMillin Memorial, which are two of the bigger 360 sprint car events in the country. When there are 50 or more of the best drivers there it says a lot that we can not only make the A Mains, but we usually run well and can contend.”
This year’s event began on Thursday with Dover placing sixth in a heat race before he charged from eighth to fourth in a qualifier. A runner-up result from fifth in a B Main earned him a spot in the main event.
“We were up to 10th from 21st when a driver got sideways in front of me,” he said. “I clipped him and spun out. We restarted last and made it up to 15th in the final seven laps or so. That hurt us because otherwise we’d have been better in event points.”
Dover’s best night came on Friday when he rallied from ninth to sixth in a heat race, won a qualifier and maneuvered from 16th to sixth in the A Main.
“With six laps to go there was a yellow and we were in 11th,” he said. “I pulled the wing back and went right to the middle of the track where nobody was running. We drove right up through there and got a great finish.”
Dover ranked eighth out of the 70-plus drivers following the two preliminary nights, which locked him into the eighth starting spot for Saturday’s main event. Unfortunately, the gear broke near the midpoint of the race as Dover was contending for a top five.
“I was really pleased with the weekend,” he said. “I learned some stuff as far as shocks go before we went to Lucas Oil Speedway and I was able to take that information with me. I think that’s what made a big difference in our weekend was the things I’ve learned on shocks as well as the setup. It’s working wherever we go.
“It was a lot of fun racing with Rick and Chris this year. They want to go out and do as good as we can, but to make sure we have fun. I felt like the more the season went on the better we got and we continued to have fun.”
Dover turns his attention to a race this Saturday at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints and ASCS Warrior Region. He ranks second in the Nebraska 360 Sprints championship standings entering the season finale.
