Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2019) – Roger Crockett capped the Fred Brownfield Classic by producing a top-10 finish last Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.
It was a solid result to wrap up a frustrating Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader that began each night with a high pill draw.
“The draw was everything last weekend,” he said. “Not all events are like that, but last weekend was. There was zero passing in the heat on Friday. I think the most anyone passed in a heat was two cars, which is what we did.”
Crockett advanced from eighth to sixth in a heat race. He then gained a position in the B Main to finish second, which earned a transfer into the main event. Crockett had charged from 18th into the top 10 before a part failure dropped him to a 17th-place result.
“In the main we were up to eighth,” he said. “We had a part failure and we were lucky to finish. We limped around and finished. I felt like we would have run in the top five.”
The event concluded on Saturday. Crockett maneuvered from seventh to fifth place in a heat race.
“We started in the back again and it was tough to pass again,” he said. “We got by a couple of guys and snuck into the back row of the A Main. The car got pretty good toward the end of the feature. We had a caution that put us back behind the same car twice. We finally got by them and by that time the rubber came. The yellow flags just were timed wrong and that hurt us, which is part of racing. I think we got one more car that got out of the rubber.”
Crockett ended with a ninth-place finish, which was his 11th top 10 of the season.
The next ASCS National Tour event is July 12-13 at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont., for the Grizzly Nationals.
