Covington Wins Steve King Memorial

Matt Covington Racing- Glenpool, Ok. (July 12th, 2023) Matt Covington came home with a win and 4th place finish this past weekend aboard his Triple X/Fisher Racing Engines mount with the ASCS National Tour presented by Racindirt at the Dodge City Raceway Park during the Steve King Memorial Race.

Matt started off Friday night with a fast time group qualifying effort, followed by a 4th place heat race finish. The accumulated points gained Covington the 5th starting spot for the feature. Matt battled inside the top-5 most of the race and crossed the checkers in 4th.

Saturday night saw Covington start the Reece Construction/Missile Motorsports machine inside row three in the A-main, after his 2nd place group qualifying effort and 3rd place heat race finish. Covington passed for 4th early and slowly closed the gap on the leaders as the fuel burned off and the car came to him. Misfortune for the leader bumped Matt into 3rd. With the car continuing to get better, Matt cleared the pass for 2nd just before the current leader also fell victim to a caution inducing mishap. Inheriting the lead and clean air, Covington was not challenged and picked up the Steve King Memorial trophy and padded payday.

“Saturday’s nights win was a pretty cool night for us,” stated Covington. “We had a solid weekend and a really good car on Saturday. Like I said post-race, I had some lucky breaks with Wayne and Bubak dropping out, but that No. 36 has been kicking my butt all year and this time we were able to get one back. Honestly, we were getting better every lap and had run down Jason and Bubak. It worked out for us getting around Jason as the yellow for Bubak came out, getting to restart with clean air. I knew with Jason behind me, I had to be perfect to not give him any chances. It was good to get back to victory lane after a couple weeks of inconsistency. But, more importantly, I wanted that for my team, Steven and all my partners and sponsors that help us and have stayed behind us. Hopefully we can take this win and use it to carry us into the races and weeks ahead.”

Up next for Matt and the ASCS National Tour is action at Thunderbird Speedway on Friday, followed by Batesville Motor Speedway on Saturday.
