Covington Shifts Focus to Devils Bowl After Tough Outing in California

CG Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (March 12, 2020) After making it home from a long drive back from California, Matt Covington and the team will use the week off to prepare for Devil’s Bowl in hopes of getting back on track and back up front.

Covington is coming off a rough weekend after his inaugural trip to California netted a provisional start on Friday at Merced, along with not making the A-feature at Petaluma on Sunday.

“We definitely struggled this past weekend,” stated Covington. “Those guys in California are fast and the tracks are challenging and tacky. Both nights we drew in the back of the heats and just wasn’t good enough to recover. But I expect different results the next time we go out that way.” The heat and qualifier efforts put Matt eighth in the B-main Friday at Merced. With good speed in the car, he made decent progress but still missed the transfer by one spot.

Sunday, the 95 was moving forward from the back of the heat race until involved in a crash that knocked the car’s front end down, resulting in a tail-end B-main start. “With the track conditions and missing the car setup, there was just too much ground to cover to really hope for a transfer,” Matt commented. “Fortunately, it’s still early in the season and the points haven’t really spread out yet. I’m just ready to go back to Devil’s Bowl because Mike and I generally do pretty well there. I just want to get last weekend’s experience behind us and perform like we did on opening weekend.”
