DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (March 8, 2023) Going on the road at the age of 16, Christopher Townsend will advance into the 360cid Sprint Car ranks full-time in 2023 with a run at Brodix National Rookie of the Year honors with the American Sprint Car Series.
Hailing out of Tarkington, Texas, the 2023 season marks the 10th year that Townsend has been behind the wheel. Advancing from Micros to RaceSaver Sprint Cars over the past couple of seasons, the team started moving into ASCS competition during the 2022 run.
On his decision to try for the Brodix Rookie of the Year, Townsend stated, “When we went to PRI this year, we started talking with Terry [Mattox] about the tow money and how that worked. Our goal originally was to run 30 nights, and I started talking about it with my parents, and that, with the point fund at the end of the year, made sense for us. That with being able to improve our cars and equipment during the off-season make it all come together.”
Driving the J&J Chassis/Wells/Turbine Specialty Services powered No. 6 owned by his parents, this year is the first full season in an ASCS-style car. Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Christopher is focused on improvement with every race.
“Our first goal is getting to the A-Main, and making sure we finish those races all year. Working up to finishing in the top ten consistently and progressing from there,” explained Christopher. “If we can pull off a win, that would be great, but our first goal is consistency.”
Christopher would like to thank his parents for allowing him to pursue his dream of racing, along with Turbine Specialty Services, RW Burk Tree Line, LLC, Keene Services, Laramie Crane, J&J Chassis, Keizer Wheels, and Zmax for their support.
The National Tour begins at the Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals in Mesquite, Texas, on Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18.
The 2023 season will mark the 32nd year of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, the ASCS Nation includes Regional Tours that encompass both wing and non-wing competition.
When making it to the track is not an option, the series can be found on http://www.floracing.com, and is included in the platform’s $150 a year subscription plan.
