EL PASO, Texas (May 17, 2017) Taking on West Texas Raceway in Lubbock and Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo this past weekend, John Carney II picked up a pair of podium finishes, including a trip to Victory Lane in Amarillo on Saturday night.
“We’ve been changing a few things on these new EMI Chassis, and so far it’s working really well,” explained Carney.
Driving the Steward Builders No. 224 this past weekend, Carney placed third on Friday night at Lubbock’s West Texas Raceway, saying the car was on a rail the whole night.
“It was actually kind of nice to race five minutes from the house, and be able to run good. We started 12th based on their point’s inversion, and with only 20 laps, it made it tough to get to the front, but I felt we did pretty good considering the wind makes it where they have to really keep the track wet so it doesn’t dry out and rubber up.”
Going to Amarillo on Saturday night, Carney put the No. 224 on the front row and never looked back as he led start to finish.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better car. I don’t think anyone ever got close to enough to challenge,” said Carney who pocketed $1,500 for his win.
Along with the win, John has been four consecutive races with podium finish. Hoping to keep the streak alive, the team is watching the forecast to decide if they’ll head for Creek and Lawton with the ASCS Red River Region, or stick close to home.
