EL PASO, Texas (October 11, 2016) Win No. 12 on the season was within reach, but instead, John Carney II was dealt a DNF on Saturday night as the engine gave up a few laps shy of the checkered flag at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan. in NCRA competition.
“We won the Heat Race from the pole and it was a heads up deal so I started outside front row next to Danny Wood. I got the lead on the second lap and led it until four laps to go but the camshaft broke at the rear so we ended up with a DNF,” explained Carney who ended up being scored 15th in the Lubbock Wrecker Service/Steward Builders No. 11x.
With a fresh bullet under the bonnet for this weekend, Carney will again pilot the Scott Brown owned entry at the 43rd Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
“I think if we just stick to our normal program, we’ll be okay. More than likely there will be Heats and Qualifiers so that takes the Pill Draw out of it. Hopefully we can find our way to the front and get locked in on Friday like we’ve done in previous years.”
Carney’s best finish against the National Tour at the Devil’s Bowl cam on March 29, 2014 with a runner-up performance to Patrick Stasa. For continued updates on John Carney II, fans can follow along on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=570728686284547&fref=ts.
