EL PASO, Texas (July 21, 2017) Picking up his fifth win of the season at Wichita Speedway on July 7 with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, El Paso’s John Carney II took the next weekend off to spend time with family, but looks to return to action on July 21 and 22 with the Red River Region as the series heads to Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. and 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan.
Just like Wichita Falls, Carney will be behind the wheel of the Steward Builders No. 224.
“We were really good at Wichita. The track was dry and smooth, and I knew the top of the track was going to be faster, but at the start, I used to bottom to get to the lead, then moved up and I wasn’t challenged after that.”
John’s second weekend on a new EMI Chassis, Carney has had a love/hate relationship with the Oklahoma quarter-mile. Scoring a National Tour win in the 2016 Fall Fling, the 2017 Speedweek ended with the El Paso native 23rd following an unavoidable crash.
Planning on 81 Speedway on Saturday night, Carney’s last visit to the Park City oval came on March 26, 2016, in the John James backed No. 4j, in which John had to race out of a B-Main for a finish of 12th in the A-Feature.
