Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (May 22, 2018) – Mother Nature finally cooperated last weekend when Tommy Bryant and the SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team were able to go racing.
Bryant made his season debut during the ASCS Gulf South Region season opener on Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park, where he nearly scored a victory before traffic relegated him to a third-place finish.
“We unloaded fast right out of the trailer,” he said. “We hardly made any adjustments to the car all night. I think we made a couple of clicks on a shock or two. We had a car capable of winning.”
Bryant stormed from fourth to take a heat race win. That garnered a spot in the feature redraw. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the A Main on the outside of the fourth row.
“We went right to the front,” he said. “I had just passed for the lead and the yellow came out. Then we got into lapped traffic and I was going for the lead when I picked a bad spot to try and get around a lapped car. I didn’t clear the way I wanted and ended up in the middle of the track and (Channin) Tankersley got a run. He got better later in the race and I kind of faded a little. I got a bit free.”
Bryant held on for the podium finish.
“All and all it was a great first night,” he said. “I’m happy with the results. Third is respectable and we had a car capable of winning.”
Bryant said he and the Coopers are very thankful for the support of Westside Truck and Trailer for helping them get to the race track.
“They did a lot of maintenance on the truck and we sure do appreciate all the help,” he said. “If it wasn’t for them we might not have made it to the races.”
The next ASCS Gulf South Region races are this Friday at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
