Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Nov. 1, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. ended his 2015 campaign in frustrating fashion during the 28th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals, which was plagued by rain last week.

The Short Track Nationals Open, which kicks off the four-day event at I-30 Speedway, was cancelled last Wednesday because of weather. Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports team then tackled the quarter-mile oval on Thursday for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

“The build-up for me definitely made it a pretty big letdown,” he said. “There was nothing they could do. Weather plays a big role in racing. It was a huge letdown in wanting to go out and just have fun in racing at one of my favorite races all year.”

Bruce Jr. lined up on the outside of the front row for a heat race on Thursday, which was the only night of the event that was contested.

“We didn’t know how it’d play out to see what line on the track would be faster,” he said. “I wanted to get to the bottom, but I was taught real quick that if you manned up and got into the ruts it was much faster.”

Bruce Jr. took the lead on the start and he pulled to the inside lane going into turn one. However, he was passed on the outside. Bruce Jr. then moved up the track and closed in on the leader before packing his right rear wheel with mud after hitting a rut.

“At the end I slowed down and just tried to make it to the finish,” he said. “I didn’t want to wad the car up in the heat race.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a fourth-place result, which lined him up on the outside of the fourth row in a qualifier.

“I had anticipated on racing fairly hard, but on the start I had two guys bonsai me up the inside,” he said. “They came in a lot more aggressively than I anticipated for being in the back of the field. It just wasn’t worth it for us to continue racing that hard and that way. It was heavy and rough. It wasn’t worth going out there and potentially tearing up all our stuff. We played pretty conservative there.”

Bruce Jr. placed 10th in the qualifier and the team elected not to start a B Main.

Rain wiped out the remainder of the weekend during the season-finale event.
