LAWTON, Okla. (July 9, 2016) Slower traffic was the key to success at the Lawton Speedway for Brandon Hanks, as the Tennessee native extended his point lead with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, topping action at the Lawton Speedway for his second regional triumph of the year.
Hanks’ fourth win overall on the 2016 season, the Performance Powder Coating No. 84 rolled off fifth in Saturday’s final leg of the 2016 ASCS Sooner Sweep.
Advancing to the front, race leader Mickey Walker, who had led since Lap 1, got caught up in slower traffic, allowing Hanks to take the point on Lap 23.
Giving chase in the closing laps, traffic turned in favor of Walker. Rolling to the white flag, Hanks was held high, giving Walker the run to the bottom, but the move was stopped in its tracks by an infield tire that knocked the D&E Supply No. 2 out of competition.
On the restart, Hanks was able to hold off John Carney II for the win. Carney would cross runner-up with Chance Morton coming from eighth to complete the podium. Brandon Long and Kevin Ramey completed the top-five.
Joe Bob Lee was sixth with ASCS Gulf South regular, Caleb Martin, crossing seventh. T.J. Honkomp was with Kyle Ezell from 16th to ninth. Sterling Hoff completed the top-ten.
The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products is back in action this weekend with the return of ASCS competition at the Texarkana 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark. on Friday, July 15, followed by Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas on Saturday, July 16.
