Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 28, 2018) – Scott Bogucki continued his impressive streak with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com last weekend during the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway.
Bogucki and the SawBlade.com backed team capped the three-night stand with a runner-up finish on the championship night to go with finishes of fourth and eighth the previous two nights.
“To go into the final night as the high point man on a track I’ve never seen is amazing, especially when you consider that was against probably the most talented field of 360 drivers in the country,” he said. “There were some pretty damn good drivers who didn’t make the show some nights. I couldn’t be more pleased with how well my guys worked and how good they got the car rolling.”
The event began on Thursday with Bogucki starting and finishing second in his heat race before he won a qualifier. He closed the night with an eighth-place result in the A Main.
“I fell back a few spots at the beginning and drove back up to fifth,” he said. “The track took rubber and I didn’t find it quick enough and lost some spots to finish eighth.”
The next night Bogucki won his heat and placed fifth in a qualifier before he drove from 10th to fourth in the main event.
“I should have run third, but I made a few little mistakes and with these guys you can’t do that,” he said.
Bogucki’s efforts on Thursday and Friday placed him on the pole for Saturday’s 40-lap main event. After leading the opening lap, Seth Bergman got around Bogucki, who settled in for a runner-up finish.
“I was probably a little too cautious at the start and Seth got around me,” he said. “When we got to traffic I would catch him, but once he got clear he drove away. He was very, very good. But honestly, when I came in my guys asked what we should have changed on the car and I can honestly say not one thing. The car was fantastic.
“I love Skagit. It reminds me of my tracks back home (in Australia). It’s so much fun to race there. It’s an amazing place.”
The weekend propelled Bogucki up another spot in the ASCS National Tour championship standings to sixth as the series continues to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., this Friday and Saturday for the Fred Brownfield Classic.
“We’ve been on quite the roll of late,” Bogucki said. “Dillon Paddock, Danny Heskin and I are really clicking. We’ve put some motors and cars and other items up for sale. We are still racing; just changing the inventory slightly, trying to upgrade our stuff.
“I’ve never raced at Grays Harbor, but I have seen it when I worked on Johnny Herrera’s team. I’m just hoping we can continue the great momentum we’ve had.”
