Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 11, 2017) – Seth Bergman earned a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend during the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway, where he had to overcome two high pill draws each night during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader.
The action began on Friday when Bergman started sixth in a heat race. He picked up a trio of positions to finish third, which earned enough points to lock into the feature redraw. However, he pulled the third-highest number during the random redraw to start the main event sixth.
“We had a really strong start and got up to third by the time the track took rubber,” he said. “Everyone knew it would be rubber down so it was important to be aggressive early while we had a track that we could race on. I got another position when Giovanni Scelzi slid out of the rubber midway through the race.”
Bergman climbed into the runner-up position and he was poised for the strong finish when he blew a tire on the final lap, which dropped him to a fifth-place result to miss locking into Saturday’s feature redraw by only one position.
“That was very frustrating that we put ourselves in a great position only to have a rubber-down track bite us at the end,” he said.
Unfortunately, the draw didn’t fare any better for Bergman on Saturday. He started seventh in a heat race, but maneuvered to a third-place finish to again make the feature redraw. This time he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.
“The track took rubber again so everybody rode around lap after lap,” he said. “We took what we could get and that was a seventh-place finish.”
The seventh-place result was Bergman’s 21st top 10 of the season.
He will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Bergman enters the weekend ranked sixth in the championship standings – only 40 points out of the top five.
