Inside Line Promotions – AMARILLO, Texas (June 12, 2018) – Seth Bergman had a roller coaster start to the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek last weekend.
Bergman posted a runner-up result during the opener before he was unable to start the main event during Round 2 because of a mechanical problem.
“We got off to a strong start, but it was a frustrating setback on Saturday night,” he said. “The best thing about Speedweek is that we don’t have to wait long to get back on the track.”
Bergman kicked off the busy week and a half of action last Friday at West Texas Speedway in Lubbock, Texas, where he won a heat race after starting on the pole. That earned enough points to lock into the feature redraw. Unfortunately, Bergman pulled the third-highest number – six – during the random redraw to line up sixth for the main event.
“We had a great car and were aggressive early,” he said. “The track started getting abrasive so there was a fine line of racing hard and making sure you didn’t damage your tires.”
Bergman climbed into the runner-up position and closed on the leader coming to the white flag. He was within striking distance entering turn three, but the leader stuck to the preferred bottom groove and it was enough to narrowly hold off Bergman.
Speedweek Round 2 got off to a similar start on Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway, where Bergman won a heat race from the pole starting position. It locked him into the feature redraw and this time he pulled the No. 2 to start the A Main on the outside of the front row.
“We had a good car and were in a great position going into the feature,” he said. “It just wasn’t our night.”
Bergman discovered a mechanical problem when he was pushed off. He headed to the work area and his team hustled to diagnose and fix the problem. A caution on the opening lap gave the team enough time to get Bergman back on the track, but an oil leak forced him to the pits before the green flag was waved.
Bergman ranks second in the ASCS National Tour championship standings and eighth in the Speedweek standings. Speedweek resumes on Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, before races on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; and Saturday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan.
