Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 8, 2018) – Seth Bergman had a successful debut in Central Pennsylvania last weekend during the Battle of the Groves to maintain the points lead in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com championship standings.
Bergman opened the weekend on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, where he placed seventh in a heat race before charging from 11th to win a B Main.
“We were way off in the heat race and it showed,” he said. “We didn’t panic and start throwing a bunch of stuff at the race car. We kept our cool and made minimal changes to the car. I made sure I stayed as calm as I could. We had a lot of adversity to overcome. We focused on getting our car as close as we could. I got going good on the top and we slid a couple of cars. We kept making speed up top.”
That earned the 18th starting position in the A Main. Unfortunately, the track took rubber early and passing was difficult. Bergman picked up a trio of positions to finish 15th.
“We tightened up from the B Main to the A Main and I didn’t feel as good,” he said. “Shortly in it took rubber and everyone fell in line.”
Bergman continued to move forward on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway, where he powered from sixth to win a heat race. He then advanced from sixth to fourth place in a qualifier, which made him the high-points driver entering the main event.
“I felt really good,” he said. “I was leaning on it pretty hard and driving hard.”
Bergman started the feature on the pole, but dropped to second on the opening lap. He maintained a top-three position for most of the race before settling for a fifth-place finish, which marked his ninth top five of the season.
“The track slicked off,” he said. “I thought the bottom was taking rubber in turns one and two so I went down to run it. That let the outside car get around me. I rode in third most of the race and late in the race when the fuel load came off we were getting freer and freer and lost two more spots in the final few laps.”
Bergman returns to the Midwest for a trio of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races this week. The action begins on Wednesday at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., before shifting to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Thursday. The weekend wraps up on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
