Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Kan. (June 20, 2018) – Seth Bergman is venturing to his home state this week to tackle the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.
The marquee Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com event runs Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where Bergman is aiming to capture the $15,000-to-win spectacle.
“Dirt Cup is a special race and it’d mean a lot to be able to stand a top the podium on Saturday,” he said. “I grew up going to the Dirt Cup. We’ve won races at Skagit and we’ve run well at Dirt Cup. The goal is to put everything together this weekend and be standing in Victory Lane on Saturday night.”
Bergman has momentum on his side. He’s tied for second place in the ASCS National Tour championship standings – only 10 points out of the lead. Bergman is also tied for the second-most ASCS National Tour feature victories this season with a pair of triumphs.
On top of that, he posted three top fives and five top 10s in six Speedweek races to end sixth in the standings. That marked his seventh consecutive season finishing in the top 10 of the Speedweek standings.
Last week’s Speedweek action began on Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where Bergman advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race and from 10th to eighth place in the A Main.
The following night he powered from fifth to third place in a heat race before maneuvering from sixth to fourth place in the main event at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.
Bergman had to overcome a high pill draw last Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., where he picked up two positions in a heat race to finish fifth. He capped the night by rallying from 14th to an eighth-place run in the feature.
Speedweek wrapped up on Saturday at Salina Speedway, where a third-place result in a heat race missed a spot into the feature redraw by only one. That lined Bergman up ninth for the main event and he gained a handful of positions to place fifth, which was his 16th top five of the season.
“We moved forward almost every time we hit the track during Speedweek,” he said. “Of course we want to be battling for the win every night, but to be a consistent top-five and top-10 car is important. More wins will come if we can continue to move forward every time we’re on the track.”
