Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (Oct. 4, 2016) – Josh Baughman put himself in contention to win the Midwest Fall Brawl V midway through the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event last Saturday at I-80 Speedway.
Baughman maneuvered from third to win his first heat race and he charged from fifth to capture the second heat, which gave him the most overall points and the pole position for the dash.
“I felt like we had one of the faster cars there,” he said. “We were the high-points guy in both heat races. Then we broke an axle in the dash.”
Baughman was running second and he would have started on the front row if he could have finished the dash in that position.
“It broke going down the straightaway about halfway through the race,” he said. “We’re lucky we didn’t destroy a car.”
Baughman was credited with a 10th-place result in the dash, which lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“We were a top-five car, but without the part failure putting us behind I felt like we had a car capable of winning,” he said. “We definitely had one of the cars to beat, a podium car if nothing else. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles.”
Baughman powered from 10th to record a fifth-place result in the feature. It was his 23rd top 10 of the season.
He will take this weekend off before tackling the Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Oct. 14-15 with the ASCS National Tour.
