Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (May 17, 2016) – Josh Baughman registered a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend during the Texas World Dirt Track Championships at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
“I felt like we did what we could given the track conditions,” he said. “We had a lot of speed. Early in the night we tried to put ourselves in a great position.”
Baughman did just that during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader, which began on Friday with a charge from eighth to fourth place in a heat race. Baughman then finished third in a qualifier to rank 10th in overall points and start the 20-lap main event on the outside of the fifth row.
“We got up to fifth and we got drove through and fell back to 12th,” he said. “We came back to eighth. We had a top-four car for sure.”
Baughman used the momentum from the eighth-place result entering Saturday’s event, which opened with Baughman winning a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. He then advanced from sixth to fourth place in a qualifier to once again rank 10th in overall points.
“On Saturday the track was one lane around the bottom and you hoped the guy in front of you made a mistake to be able to pass,” he said. “It was a boring weekend and an expensive weekend because of tires.”
Baughman ended with a 10th-place result. He ranks 10th in the ASCS National Tour championship standings.
“I felt like we were better than just a top-10 car,” he said. “We need to be running top fives at this point.”
Baughman will take the next two weekends off before returning to ASCS National Tour competition June 1 at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind.; June 3 at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich.; and June 4 at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind.
