Barksdale Bags First ASCS Win in Lone Star Roundup at Cowtown!

Lonnie Wheatley, KENNEDALE, Texas (August 19, 2011) – Koby Barksdale captured his first career American Sprint Car Series feature win by cracking victory lane in Friday night’s 25-lap The Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star main event at Cowtown Speedway.

And, the 20-year-old from Norman, OK, did it in dramatic style, racing from six rows deep to take the lead on the white flag lap aboard the Schartz Farms No. 22.

While Barksdale gridded the feature field 11th, Michael Lang paced the initial 15 circuits before spinning from contention and handing the lead off to Justin Melton. Melton held the point until a lap 23 restart gave Barksdale a run at the top spot.

Barksdale rallied by on the top side for the lead on the 24th lap and took the checkered flag ahead of Melton, with Ryan Beechler, 17th-starter Brandon Corn and Kolt Walker rounding out the top five.

Kevin Ramey was sixth, with Mike Goodman, Lang, Ryan Hall and Chad Wilson completing the top ten.

Lang, Wilson, Robert Byrom and Eric Baldaccini topped heat race action, with Corn winning the “B” Main.

After claiming the final transfer from the “B” Main, current ASCS Lone Star points leader Matt Covington rallied from the 20th starting position to third only to be forced pitside with mechanical issues several laps shy of the checkered flag.
