Austin O’Neal Kicks 2022 Season Off at Lucas Oil Speedway

By Peterson Media (Kearney, MO) — With weather and part delays both playing a part in delaying Austin O’Neal’s season opening event, that finally changed as he raised the curtain on his campaign Saturday night in Wheatland, MO.

“It wasn’t the overall result we were looking for as we came into the night confident we could produce a Top-10,” Austin O’Neal said. “We had really good speed early in the night but lacked good luck on our pill draw which dictated a lot about our night.”

Lining the Marmon/Keystone/Weld Racing/River Valley Ag backed No. 11 up in the third row of his heat race, passing would be tough on this night. Able to work his way into fifth, the Kearney, MO driver would just narrowly miss out on locking directly into the feature event.

Forced into the ‘B’ on this night, O’Neal would continue to shake off some rust in what was his first start of the season as he pocketed a third place finish and transferred into the feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position, the slick surface would soon turn extremely abrasive as rubber would begin to go down on the eighth lap of the race.

As the rubber began going down, O’Neal would be forced to get in line and keep his machine in the rubber as he worked around the Lucas Oil Speedway.

When the checkered flag flew on the feature event, O’Neal would take the checkered flag with an 18th place finish.

“In the feature our car felt really good, and as it started to get really good the track took rubber and basically ended our chances of moving forward,” O’Neal said. “It wasn’t a great result, but it was great getting back in our car. I am looking forward to getting back to action this weekend with the ASCS National Tour.”

Austin O’Neal Racing would like to thank Marmon/Keystone, Weld Racing, River Valley Ag, Kaw Valley Companies, RacinBoys, HMC Performance Coatings, Mel Hambelton Ford Racing, Champion Oil, Taffs Carpets, Rod End Supply, Clemons Home Team, Mettec Titanium, V&L Properties, Toby’s Coatings, NGK Spark Plugs, Maxim Racing, Capital Sign Co., Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schure Built Suspensions for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-1, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
