ASCS SPEEDWEEK PREVIEW: Tri-State Speedway

Tri-State Speedway

The American Sprint Car Series returns to Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, OK to crown the first ASCS Speedweek champion under the World Racing Group banner on Saturday, June 15.

ASCS National Tour and Sooner Region competitors will converge on the 3/8-mile Oklahoma track to conclude the weeklong Speedweek and take home a $4,000 payday.

It’ll be the National Tour’s first time back at the track since 2005 and the Sooner Region’s first return since 2022.

Brandon Anderson, of Glenpool, OK, is the last driver to have won an ASCS race at Tri-State. And while his No. 55B car will be at the track, Anderson will continue to be sidelined due to an injury. Instead, Jordon Mallett will pilot the car, looking for his second career National Tour win.

Of the current full-time ASCS National Tour drivers, five-time Series champion Sam Hafertepe Jr. and Oklahoma’s Matt Covington have each previously won at Tri-State. Hafertepe won in 2018 with the Red River Region and Covington won the following year with the Sooner Region.

Both had a strong Speedweek start at Texarkana 67 Speedway on Tuesday as Hafertepe won and Covington finished third. Seth Bergman, who currently leads the National Tour points, finished second. Hafertepe is after is third Speedweek title, while Bergman and Covington are hunting for their first.

There have been five different champions in the last five editions of ASCS Speedweek – Tim Crawley (2022), Ryan Timms (2021), Hafertepe Jr. (2019), Sammy Swindell (2018) and Aaron Retuzel (2017). If a new champion is crowned at Tri-State, it would be the third time in Series history that there have been six consecutive different champions.

Two other Oklahoma natives that will be gunning for the title are two-time National Tour champion Blake Hahn, of Sapupla, OK and 2024 Rookie of the Year contender Terry Easum, of Broken Arrow, OK.

Hahn won with the ASCS Sooner Region in 2020 and Easum already picked up a win in Oklahoma this year, scoring his first career National Tour win at Red Dirt Raceway in May.

ASCS Speedweek continues Thursday, June 13, at Creek County Speedway and then moves to Arrowhead Speedway on Friday, June 14, before concluding at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday, June 15.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. (CT) and the grandstand gate opens at 5 p.m. Hot Laps are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available for purchase at the track. You can also purchase your tickets for Round 3 at Arrowhead Speedway now by clicking here.
