T.J. Buffenbarger, TULSA, Okla. (July 20, 2009) – The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP makes its one and only appearance during the 2009 season Friday at the Cherry Raceway in Fife Lake, Michigan. Work was done over the off season to modify the 3/8-mile clay oval. Cherry also hosts round five of the MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge.
Last season Gregg Dalman and Ben Rutan won feature events at Cherry. Dalman is currently second in the ASCS SOD point standings and will look to close a 26 point gap that opened up between him and Brett Mann after Dalman cut down a right rear tire during last Friday’s event at the Ionia Free Fair. Dalman rallied from deep in the pack on Saturday with a bent axle to finish fourth and maintain second in the point standings.
Dalman is also involved in race for the MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge title. Dalman is four points behind Steve Irwin, who like Dalman has scored a top five finish in every Short Track Challenge event this season.
Hot laps for Friday’s event at Cherry begin at 6:15 p.m. with racing starting at 7:15.
The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP is in its 30th season of competition. Twenty-two point paying races are on the calendar with three special non-point races making up the 25 event schedule contested throughout Michigan, Ohio, and into Canada.
