Taking wingless action to Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday, Aug. 3, the ASCS Elite Non-Wing Series presented by Abilene Powder Coating will battle for a $5,000 payday during the 10th annual Superior Livestock Trailers G.W. Elkins Southwestern Championship.
Honoring the late owner/promoter of the former Amarillo Speed Bowl, which sits just over six miles northwest of Route 66 Motor Speedway, Elkins was among the founding members of the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) and was elected president of the organization during its founding in 1971.
Becoming the second driver to become a multi-time winner of the Southwestern Championship, El Paso’s John Carney II, who won in 2015, captured the $5,000 check again in 2023. The only other driver to win the event twice is current point’s leader, R.J. Miller, who won the event in 2017 and 2018. Other winners include Johnny Miller (2016), Wyatt Burks (2019), Keith Martin (2020), Justin Zimmerman (2021), and Caden McCreary (2022).
Saturday’s Feature will be $5,000 to win and $500 to start; pits open at 3:30 p.m. with grandstands opening at 6 p.m. The 10th annual Superior Livestock Trailers G.W. Elkins Southwestern Championship goes green at 7 p.m. (CDT). Other divisions include the AA&A Windshield & Glass USRA Limited Mods, Air Compressor Solutions Street Stocks, 1-800 Radiator USRA Tuners, TB Trailer Sales USRA Modifieds, and ERAC Services Dirt Limited Late Models.
