SAPULPA, Okla. (July 19, 2017) An up and down weekend was the story for Blake Hahn with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network at Black Hills Speedway with the weekend ultimately producing a fifth place finish to end out the Rushmore Rumble.

Running runner-up during Friday’s preliminary feature event, Hahn battle back and forth with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. for the race lead as the pair dashed through traffic.

“The track was good for the first half of the race, and we were able to pull slide jobs when we needed to. Racing with Sam, you have to race as hard as possible, and when I slid him for the lead, I just had too much momentum going up the banking to block his line, so both times, he was able to turn under me.”

Working Lap 11, traffic would be the undoing of Hahn’s run.

“I had a line picked to try and get another run on Sam, and all the sudden I had a car spun in front of me. You carry so much speed at that track, it’s tough to get stopped and I just had too much momentum and ended up hitting him with my right rear,” commented Hahn who was able to keep rolling despite the hard contact.

Bypassing the work area under the ensuing red as another driver flipped at the same time as Blake’s accident, Hahn looked to be on his way to a runner-up finish, but the hit would finally bear its fruit.

“I was shocked the car was rolling as well as it was. I really thought we were good but we ended up pulling the Torque Tube back and it just finally came undone from the slip joint.”

With repairs made, Hahn returned Saturday with a win in his Heat Race that set him up seventh on the grid where the night would end with a fifth place finish.

“Overall, I was happy with the weekend. It would have been nice to get locked in on Friday and not had to go through so much traffic on Saturday, but we didn’t junk the car and actually did better than I thought considering we were running the weaker of our engines.”

Up next for Hahn is a run through Oklahoma and Missouri with Creek County Speedway on Friday, July 21 with the ASCS Red River Region. Saturday, July 22 will see Hahn’s first trip to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. before taking on the Clyde Wood Memorial on Sunday, July 23 at Double X Speedway with the ASCS Warrior Region.
