Covington Breaks Through For First Win of 2017 at Grays Harbor

CG Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (July 5th, 2017) Matt Covington came home with a win and 6th place finish this past weekend aboard his Triple X/WESMAR Racing Engines mount with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by MavTV at the Grays Harbor Raceway during the Fred Brownfield Memorial Race.

Matt would start off Friday night with a heat win after rolling out 4th. The win would gain Covington the outside front row starting spot for the feature. After two failed start attempts, Covington would take advantage of the third one to get the jump and pace the field through the first part of the race. Fending off several mid-race charges from Aaron Reutzel and Sam Hafertepe Jr, Covington would hold strong and close it out for his first win of 2017, leading all 25 laps.

Saturday night saw Covington start the A-Rock Materials/T&L Foundry machine outside row one in the A-main finale, after gaining the lock in spot from the victory the night before. Covington would battle most of the race in the top-5 before slipping back at the checkers to come home 6th. The 6th place effort would extend Covington’s top-10 streak to 11.

“Friday night’s win was a pretty cool night for us,” stated Covington. “It was awesome for me to get back to victory lane and grab another National Tour win, but more importantly I wanted that for my team and Tyler along with all my partners and sponsors that helped us and have stayed with us. We’ve had an up and down last few years and it’s just nice to get a victory and strong run like this team deserves. We came back on Saturday and were fast again. We were able to grab another top-10 and solid 6th place run. Couple small mistakes on my part and race circumstances, or I think we would have had another shot at a podium. I honestly can’t think Tyler enough for all his hard work. He has giving me well prepared and fast race cars all year. Hopefully we can take this win and use it to help carry us into the remainder of the season and grab another couple victories before seasons end.”

Matt and his CG Motorsports team would like to thank all partners who have helped make the current 2017 season possible.
