Dover Surpasses Goal During Hockett/McMillin Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 26, 2017) – Jack Dover is extremely pleased with his results during the 7th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.

Dover teamed up with Chris Bowers for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tripleheader, which began on Thursday with the duo charging from seventh to second place in a heat race. Dover then finished where he started – sixth – in a heat race, which locked him into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“We were battling for a top 10 when the valve core came loose in a wheel,” he said. “I’ve never had that happen in my racing career. We ran that tire in the qualifier. You’d think it would happen then rather than the main event.”

Dover was unable to finish the race and was credited with a 22nd-place finish.

He returned to the track on Friday for Round 2 of the event, which he started by maneuvering from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. Dover then won a qualifier and started the A Main on the inside of the fifth row.

“We weren’t tight enough so to be able to finish near where we started wasn’t a bad night,” he said. “The biggest thing is that if you make the A Main there’s 30-plus other drivers trying to make it in who don’t.”

Dover ended the night with an 11th-place result.

The event wrapped up on Saturday with an ominous start.

“In hot laps someone went around in front of us and we had nowhere to go and flipped,” he said. “We were in a 20-foot trailer with not a lot of parts, but we had everything we needed. We thrashed to get the car done and we won the qualifier so we knew we were decent.”

Dover captured another qualifier win to lock into the 11th starting position for the $10,000-to-win main event.

“We rode around there in 12th for most of the race,” he said. “In the last five laps I figured something out and got by some cars. It was a little late in the race to figure out what we needed to do otherwise we could have been a top-five car.”

Dover’s ninth-place finish was his 21st top 10 of the season.

“Awesome,” he said. “Making the A Main all three nights, flipping Saturday in hot laps and running ninth in the main event is pretty awesome. Our main goal was to make the main event and we came out of there with a top 10. I want to thank Chris for the opportunity and everyone for pitching in to help when we crashed.”

Dover will return to his sprint car this Saturday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the Midwest Fall Brawl with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
