Rilat Extends Top-10 Streak at Devil’s Bowl to Highlight Last Week’s ASCS Speedweek Action

Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Kan. (June 20, 2018) – Travis Rilat extended his top-10 streak at Devil’s Bowl Speedway to 14 consecutive years a week ago Tuesday during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek race.

Rilat guided the BDS Motorsports entry to a runner-up result in a heat race before he captured a fifth-place finish in the A Main. He has now earned at least one top-10 finish at the half-mile oval during each season dating back to 2005.

“Devil’s Bowl is our home track so it’s great to have strong performances there,” he said. “The track was tough to pass on so starting position was key. I think if we started on the front row we could have battled for the win, but we’ll take the top five.”

The race started last week’s portion of Speedweek, which continued on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. Rilat maneuvered from eighth to sixth place in a heat race before advancing from 15th to 10th in the A Main.

Similar results were produced on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., where Rilat finished fourth in a heat race before powering from 15th to 10th in the main event. It was his fifth top 10 in ASCS National Tour competition this year.

Speedweek concluded on Saturday at Salina Speedway, where Rilat finished fifth in a heat race and 14th in the main event. He ended ninth in the Speedweek standings.

“We had a fast car throughout Speedweek like we’ve had all season,” he said. “We didn’t have the best starting positions, but we moved forward almost every time we were on the track. I think we’re right on the cusp of knocking off a win or two and this weekend would be a great time to accomplish that.”

Rilat will return to ASCS National Tour competition this Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup. The finale pays $15,000 to win.

Rilat has earned eight podium finishes and 21 top 10s during 30 races at the track since the start of the 2013 season. Additionally, he claimed a Dirt Cup preliminary triumph in 2006 and 2012 when the event hosted 410ci winged sprint cars.

“I have a lot of laps at Skagit the last few years and usually run well so I’m looking forward to this weekend,” he said. “This is one of the biggest events we race at all year so if you have a great weekend it is a huge accomplishment.”

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race a few years ago,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
