Hill Heading to Dirt Cup Following Rough ASCS National Tour Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Kan. (June 19, 2018) – Alex Hill has ventured to the West Coast for the next opportunity to compete after she endured a difficult Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek.

“We had a tough time,” she said. “I hate it for my crew. They all work really hard and they don’t deserve all the bad luck we’ve been having. We’re hoping for better luck in Washington.”

Hill started last week’s Speedweek action on Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where she placed seventh in a heat race and fourth in the B Main before moving forward to a 17th-place result in the main event.

“We had a decent night at Devil’s Bowl,” she said. “We got going pretty good in the feature. We just started too far back to get very far. It actually turned out to be our best finish of the week.”

The following night at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., began of string of first-time appearances at Midwest tracks for Hill.

“I was running fourth in the heat race when I noticed someone’s nose wing next to me,” she said. “Then I drove too hard and hit an infield tire, which put me out of the race. My crew thought they had everything fixed for the B Main, but when I was going out for that race we found out that the steering box was broke so that ended our night.”

Thursday night at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., started with great promise for Hill as she finished second in her heat race and drew the pole starting position for the feature. Her night quickly changed early in the main event as she rode out a violent flip down the front straightaway.

“I fell back to third and then I got together with another car,” she said. “Unfortunately, that car belonged to my teammate (Sam Hafertepe Jr.). We banged wheels and I got the bad end of it and flipped.”

It also bent a new car that had been specially built for Hill one week prior.
“I really liked that car,” she said. “I felt very comfortable in it. We’re getting it fixed here in Washington now so that we can race it again this week.”

Misfortune struck Hill again on Saturday night at Salina Speedway during the Speedweek finale.

“I had a bad heat race,” she said. “The track really got slick and I fell back quite a bit. Then I started 21st in the feature and moved up to 13th when a fuel line began leaking. I had fuel all over my foot so I pulled off.”

Hill and her crew then hauled 30 straight hours to arrive in Washington on Monday for the 47th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup this Thursday through Saturday at Skagit Speedway in Alger.

“Skagit is one of the tracks new to me that I’ve really been looking forward to racing,” she said. “Hopefully we’ve left our bad luck behind. At least it’s a lot cooler here than it was last week.”
