Covington Goes 11th to 4th at I-30

Glenpool, Okla. CG Motorsports (Sept 19, 2018) Matt Covington and team tackled the I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. this past weekend with the ASCS Mid-South/Red River region for the Ralph Henson Memorial.

Covington had to work his way through the field after starting 11th in the feature due to a heat race win from the pole without any passing points.

“We just didn’t get the points in the heat race that we needed to start up front in the feature,” stated Matt. “We won from the pole and was very fast, but it was only good enough for a sixth row starting spot in the main.”

Covington went to work at the drop of the green and charged all race long. He was able to advance enough positions to come home 4th from 11th to grab another strong top-5 at the drop of the checkers.

“We were really good in the feature. Me and Mike tried some stuff setup wise that the car really liked,” said Covington. “The track was typical Little Rock and very slick as the race went on. The bottom was better but you could make the top work if you timed it just right after the restarts. I honestly felt we had the speed and were as fast as anyone on the track. We just had to start so far back that by the time I got up with the leaders, we were out of laps. I wished we had a had more points from the heat and could’ve started closer to the front, but we learned a lot and rallied to a strong top-5 finish. We will take it and build on the notebook for the next time we come back for the STN. Our goal this weekend is to go to Lucas Oil and better ourselves one spot from last year. We need to grab a lock-in on Saturday from Thursday’s and Friday’s points, to set us up again for a win or strong top-5 finish.”

Up next this weekend for Covington is the Hockett/McMillin Memorial at the Lucas Oil Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
