Masse Posts Pair of Top-15 Finishes With ASCS Frontier Region

Inside Line Promotions – GREAT FALLS, Mont. (Aug. 14, 2018) – Cody Masse garnered a pair of top-15 finishes with the ASCS Frontier Region during a doubleheader last weekend at Electric City Speedway.

“Our weekend was okay,” he said. “We weren’t bad by any means, but I guess both the car and the driver were missing a little bit that would have had us in the top 10. There were pretty good fields of cars both nights. The good news was that we finished each feature and rolled the car into the trailer at the end of each night.”

Masse rolled off 13th on the feature starting grid after starting third and finishing fourth in his heat race on Friday.

“We had a pretty good car, although it didn’t respond to the bumps in the track as well as I would have liked,” he said. “We got by a couple of cars and a couple got by us so we finished in the same position we started. We found out the next day that our left rear shock wasn’t holding down at all, which made me feel a little better as to why we didn’t do better.”

Saturday night’s heat race went better for Masse as he advanced from eighth to fifth.

“We actually got a little damage on the start when everyone kind of got stacked up,” he said. “But even though we went from eighth to fifth, it wasn’t enough for us to make the redraw and we started 13th in the feature again for the second night in a row.

“Our car was a little better in the feature on Saturday, especially the first half of the race when we passed a couple of cars and got close to the top 10. But then the field got kind of strung out and the race went non-stop, making it difficult to move up.

“I made a mistake with two laps to go when I went to the top of the track to see if it was better there and I let a few cars by me. I was able to get two of them back before the finish so I finished 14th instead of 12th, which wasn’t a huge difference. But if I’d known there were only two laps left I probably wouldn’t have done it. Back at the shop we noticed that the torsion tube was bent from the heat race contact so that certainly didn’t help.”

Next up for Masse is the 63rd annual Jim Albert Memorial Gold Cup with the NSA Series this Friday and Saturday at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

“Even though it’s the only 360 sprint car track in Alberta I’ve only run there about four nights so I don’t really have a lot of experience there,” he said. “It’s a little different than the tracks in Montana. The high groove there is usually about a foot from the wall. There will be a lot of tough competition with a number of drivers traveling there. Our best finish at the Gold Cup is 11th. We’d be really happy with a top-10 finish there, regarding the competition and our lack of experience there.”
