4th Place Run Highlights Covington’s Weekend at Big Sky

CG Motorsports – Glenpool, Ok. (July 24th, 2019) – Matt Covington earned a top-10 and top-5 with a 6th and 4th place finish this past weekend during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Big Sky Speedway.

Friday night’s action saw Covington win the heat from the pole, placing him in the 6th starting position for the feature in his A-Rock Materials/Outlaws Wings machine.

During the feature event, Matt was not able to advance, but held his position to come home with a 6th place effort.

“We missed the setup on Friday and just really didn’t have the car to move forward in the feature,” he said. “I did what I could but I was mostly just trying not to lose any spots and go backwards. Luckily we escaped with a decent run and was able to maintain a top-10 finish.”

Saturday night’s action started with Covington going from 4th to 3rd in the heat, being only good enough to start him 12th in the A feature.

With the feature underway, Covington took his Triple X/Shark Racing Engines mount towards the front, battling inside the top-10 early, before breaking the top-5 late and coming home with a solid 4th place finish.

“Saturday night was definitely a better night for us,” commented Matt. “We had a tough heat and were only able to get one spot, which didn’t put us up front in the feature. But we were able to do better with the car setup and gain the speed and momentum we needed last night. We almost came away with another podium, so not a bad weekend. This Saturday we’re going to try to knock the rust off for the 360 Knoxville Nationals coming up.”

Up next for Matt is a weekly stop at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA for a tune up before the big 360 Nationals.
