Williamson Garners Hard Charger Award During Hockett/McMillin Memorial Finale

Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 20, 2021) – Garet Williamson capped the 11th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial by earning the Hard Charger Award last Saturday.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver garnered the award for passing the most cars during the A Main of the prestigious Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event hosted by Lucas Oil Speedway.

The three-day event began on Thursday with Williamson finishing fourth in a heat race and advancing from seventh to third in a qualifier. That earned enough points to lock directly into the feature, which ended with a 16th-place finish.

“Thursday wasn’t a great night,” he said. “We made the show, but I wasn’t aggressive enough in the A Main and we just ran around where we started.”

The next night was a step forward as Williamson maneuvered from eighth to fifth place in a heat race. He won a qualifier after starting second and wrapped up the night by picking up two positions in the feature to place sixth, which was a career-best outing at the track.

“On Friday we were really good,” he said. “I think I should have ran in the top three. I got to fourth and moved around. I was fast where I was and that messed me up. That was the best I’ve ran there and the fastest I’ve been competing there. I knew we had a good car going into Saturday.”

Saturday’s event finale began with Williamson placing third in a Last Chance Qualifier. He then won a B Main to transfer into the 19th starting spot in the main event.

“I had my RACEiver come unplugged during the three wide,” he said. “I stopped and the officials put me to the tail so we actually started 26th. We had a great car. Honestly, with another yellow or two we could have run in the top five. We had a good battle with Joe B. Miller and Kyle Bellm, and we all finished right next to each other.

“It was nice to run well and charge into the top 10. I knew we had the car to do it all weekend.”

Williamson’s eighth-place result was his 16th top 10 of the season.

He plans on racing this Saturday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, and Sunday at East Moline Speedway in East Moline, Ill., with the Sprint Invaders.
