The top 360 Sprint Car drivers in the nation return to Montana for another three straight nights of action to wrap up the Frontier Speedweek.
The tripleheader weekend brings the American Sprint Car Series National Tour back to Gallatin Speedway, in the heart of Belgrade, MT, for the first time since 2021, on Friday, Sept. 4. Then the tour will make a 180-mile trek north to Great Falls, MT’s Electric City Speedway for two nights of the Montana Roundup.
Here’s a look at the top storylines:
Changing Tides – The opening weekend of Frontier Speedweek brought chaos to the top of the points standings with Matt Covington stealing the points lead from Sam Hafertepe Jr. – now six points ahead of the six-time champion.
On the first night at Big Sky, Hafertepe flipped and finished last, handing the points lead to Covington, who finished fourth. The next night, Hafertepe came back with a vengeance, charging to the $10,000 win and reclaiming the points lead from Covington, who finished fifth.
Then, in the Series debut at Sheridan Speedway, Covington drove to his only podium of the weekend with a second-place finish. Hafertepe’s fourth-place result helped the No. 95 retake the top spot once more. Heading into the final weekend, both drivers have won at Gallatin previously and seek their first triumph at Electric City.
Jett Flyin’ – Jett Barnes entered his first ASCS event at Big Sky Speedway, piloting the Jason Meyers No. 14 and drove it to his first Quick Time Award with the Series and a sixth-place finish in the Feature.
Barnes came back the next night and earned his first Heat win. He then led the first 12 laps of the Feature before losing a right-rear tire after dueling with Hafertepe for the lead, falling out of contention.
Barnes shined brightest on Sunday at Sheridan by setting a new track record in Qualifying (13.787 seconds), and then leading all 25 laps around the Wyoming 3/8-mile for his first-ever National Tour win in his third Feature start.
Top-10 Showoff – The opening weekend of Frontier Speedweek mixed the top 10 in points after three nights of racing between Montana and Wyoming.
The biggest mover of the weekend was Rookie of the Year contender Cole Schroeder. He finished second in the Harvey Ostermiller Memorial finale, earning his first-ever podium on the National Tour. The results jumped the Bozeman, MT native from 10th to seventh in points.
There’s a 30-point difference between Austyn Gossel in sixth and Terry Easum in ninth entering this weekend’s tripleheader, giving the chance for more movement after this weekend.
Northern Defense – Drivers from the Northwest and Canada performed well in front of their region during the first leg of the Frontier Speedweek.
Two found the podium with Snohomish, WA’s Seth Bergman picking up the win on Friday at Big Sky and Bozeman, MT’s Cole Schroeder’s runner-up finish on Saturday at Big Sky.
Lethbridge, AB, CA’s Kelly Miller earned fourth-place honors in the finale at Big Sky, his best finish of the three-race pack. He’s won at Gallatin and Electric City in 2026 with one victory apiece as he goes for a first National Tour win in the last leg of the Frontier Speedweek.
Montana native Rich Bailey earned a career-high 10th place at Big Sky on Saturday.
