Williamson Posts Sixth-Place Run During Hockett/McMillin Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 19, 2022) – Garet Williamson tied his career-best result at Lucas Oil Speedway last Friday during the 12th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver, who was showcasing a new car design, opened the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tripleheader on Thursday by qualifying second quickest in his group. A fourth-place finish in a heat race was followed by a runner-up result in a B Main. Williamson gained a pair of positions in the feature to end 19th.

The team took a step forward on Friday when Williamson again timed in second quickest in his group. This time he advanced from third to win a heat race, placing him in the third starting spot in the A Main.

“The track was tough all weekend,” he said. “Friday night I think it was the best and we were really good. We paced Dylan (Westbrook) for the lead for the first 10 laps and threw a couple of sliders. I just searched and moved around too much. I jumped down to the bottom, which is where we got passed and about three laps later the top took rubber. Otherwise I think we had a car that could have been on the podium.”

Williamson’s sixth-place showing tied his best finish at the track, which also occurred during the second preliminary night of the Hockett/McMillin Memorial last year.

Once preliminary points were calculated Williamson ranked 10th out of the nearly 80 drivers to miss locking directly into Saturday’s main event by only two positions. He was forced to run a qualifier on Saturday and a second-place result earned a transfer into the 14th starting spot in the main event.

“We were struggling at the beginning,” he said. “They reworked the track before us and it was around the bottom. I think that threw us for a loop. You had to commit to the bottom the whole night.”

Williamson made a late charge to battle for a top 10 before he was credited with an 11th-place finish.

“It was a decent weekend,” he said. “We were pretty consistent every night.”

Williamson will make his debut at a pair of Missouri tracks this weekend. The action begins on Friday at Callaway Raceway in Fulton before St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington hosts the Queen’s Royal on Saturday.
