Lone Star State race fans were greeted by 28 Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region pilots for a Cinco de Mayo showdown. For the third time in as many 2012 ASCS Lone Star events, the Lone Star bounty is going north of the Red River.

Mustang, Oklahoma’s Andy Shouse battled up from his third row starting spot to overcome El Paso’s John Carney on the 15th round and withstood a Travis Rilat assault en route to his first Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region score of the young 2012 season.

Carney was in command throughout the first 15 laps, but a trio of pilots in his rear view found the rubber before the El Paso native did, allowing Shouse, Rilat, and Ft. Worth’s Kevin Ramey to battle past.

A Chase Brewer collision with the turn 3 and 4 wall shaped a shootout style conclusion to the 25 lap Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region main event.

But Shouse, a 2004 American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region titlist, proved up to the task in the Bishop’s Racing Components no. 27 XXX.

Forney, Texas’ former ASCS National Tour champion Travis Rilat settled for runner up honors with Ramey claiming show position honors at the final stripe. Carney crossed the finish line fourth with Snohomish, Washington native Gary Taylor turning in the Bishop’s Racing Components Hard Charger effort; Taylor advanced ten spots from his original 15th place starting spot to complete the top five finishing order.

Glenpool, Oklahoma’s defending Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region Champion Matt Covington finished sixth, followed by Flower Mound’s Justin Melton, Mesquite, Texas’ current ASCS Lone Star point leader Martin Edwards advanced 8 positions to finish eighth, with Godley, Texas’ Claud Estes and Missouri City, Texas’ Brandon Berryman completing the top ten order.

Evan Pardo, Kevin Ramey, John Carney, and Robert Byrom each claimed heat race honors over the 28 car field with Larry Howery taking the winning style transfer in the sole 12 lap B Feature.

Shouse’s win marked the third time in as many ASCS Lone Star outings that the Lone Star loot went north of the Red River. Knoxville, Iowa native (by way of Mustang, Oklahoma) Wayne Johnson took honors in season opening action at Lone Star Speedway, with Glenpool, Oklahoma’s defending Lone Star champion Matt Covington sailing to victory at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

The Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region returns to action Saturday, May 19th at Mesquite, Texas’ Devil’s Bowl Speedway for the first of four showdowns against the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region.
