ASCS Gulf South Schedule Released

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 17, 2012) – The 2012 schedule of events for the Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region has been released, as the series gears up for its 11th year of competition throughout the southern portion of Texas and into Louisiana.

The current slate of events includes 24 nights of action at eight different tracks, with an additional four dates to be determined.

The ASCS Gulf South Region kicks off the 2012 campaign on March 16 with the first of six scheduled events at Beaumont’s Golden Triangle Raceway Park, with the Fifth Annual Gulf Coast Nationals the following night at Baytown’s Royal Purple Raceway.

In addition to Golden Triangle and Royal Purple Raceway, other familiar tracks returning to the ASCS Gulf South slate in 2012 include Waco’s Heart O’ Texas Speedway, Willis’ Gator Motorplex, Highlands’ Battleground Speedway, Edna’s Texana Raceway Park Chatham, Louisiana’s Jones Motor Speedway. A new addition to the ASCS Gulf South schedule in 2012 is Killeen’s Texas Thunder Speedway.

Along the way, the ASCS Gulf South forces will mix it up with the Lucas Oil ASCS National series on April 13-14 at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park and Battleground Speedway.

The 2012 ASCS Gulf South season finale will be at Royal Purple Raceway on October 6.

Ray Allen Kulhanek is the reigning ASCS Gulf South champion, outlasting Tommy Bryant and George White for his second consecutive series title in 2011 and third of his career.

March 16 – Golden Triangle Raceway Park (Beaumont, TX) – $3,000 to win
March 17 – Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, TX) – $3,000 to win Gulf Coast Nationals
March 30 – Heart O’ Texas Speedway (Waco, TX) – $3,000 to win
March 31 – Gator Motorplex (Willis, TX)

The 2012 season marks the 21st year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
