Tankersley Maneuvers to First ASCS Gulf South Region Victory of Season

Inside Line Promotions – WACO, Texas (June 30, 2015) – Channin Tankersley let out a big sigh of relief when he drove underneath the checkered flags last Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway to capture his first ASCS Gulf South Region main event win of the season.

“It hasn’t been going well in the Gulf South this year,” he said. “I think that’s our second finish of the year. When we’re finishing we are finishing good, but we’ve ran into so much bad luck. Friday was definitely a one-eighty from what we’ve been doing.”

Tankersley opened the event by charging from fourth place to win a heat race. That earned him enough points to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“I got up to third pretty fast and maintained most of the race,” he said. “In one corner I got a good break in traffic. The first and second-place guys dove to the bottom and I went to the top. I got a run on them and shot the gap and was able to take the lead.”

Tankersley powered into the lead approximately two thirds of the way through the feature before he cruised to the victory.

“It’s been a tough start to the season so I really want to thank my fans and Watercraft Plus, G3 Boats, Challenger Drilling and all of my sponsors for the support,” he said. “Hopefully this will help us turn the corner and will start a winning streak.”

Saturday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, rained out. It was the ninth out of 14 scheduled ASCS Gulf South events to be rained out this season.

Tankersley, who advanced into fourth in the championship standings, is slated to return to competition July 17 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and July 18 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
