Inside Line Promotions \u2013 GREENBRIER, Ark. (Sept. 27, 2022) \u2013 Jordon Mallett has unfinished business at I-30 Speedway, which hosts three straight nights of racing this weekend.<\/p>\n
The action at the dirt oval in Little Rock, Ark., begins on Thursday with the Ralph Henson Memorial featuring the ASCS Mid-South Region. The track then showcases the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Friday and Saturday for the 35th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal is always the same; we want to unload and be fast,\u201d Mallett said. \u201cWe obviously want to win, but it\u2019s all about consistency. Thursday is a bonus because it\u2019s a one-night deal. On Friday it\u2019s part of the weekend event so you have to think bigger picture. It\u2019s a marathon rather than just a sprint, which is what Thursday will be.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year we ran second at the Ralph Henson Memorial. We really wanted to win it. We had to come back from a ways and the track rubbered up. It will be a good tune-up to see what kind of track we\u2019ll have for the rest of the weekend. I-30 is such a beast for me. It\u2019s one of those places where its highs are high and lows are low.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mallett is coming off a career-best Short Track Nationals.<\/p>\n
\u201cShort Track Nationals last year was really good,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel we\u2019ve consistently gotten better there. Last year we had the luck to go along with the speed. I think that\u2019s important at Short Track Nationals. That track is an animal of its own and the event is similar.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mallett won the preliminary night \u2013 his first career ASCS National Tour triumph \u2013 before leading late in the A Main during the event finale.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was leading and had half a track lead sorting through traffic,\u201d he said. \u201cThe second-place guy had moved up and was ripping the lip. It was a no-contest issue until there was a caution produced. When we went back green the top was better than the bottom and I was a sitting duck. It was a hard deal to swallow and I\u2019m still not over it. The only thing to do is saddle back up and get back there this weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty big chip on my shoulder. Last year was one of the best chances I\u2019ve had at putting my name on the winner\u2019s board. I really hated to see that late-race caution. We had a big lead until that point. But that\u2019s why they call it racing and not winning. I\u2019m coming back wanting it more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mallett was credited with a career-best third in the Short Track Nationals finale last year.<\/p>\n
