Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 31, 2023) – Jack Dover captured a runner-up result last Friday during his first start of the season in his No. 53 sprint car.

The second-place showing at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., was Dover’s best result with the ASCS National Tour since September 2021.

“Honestly, it was a spectacular night for us,” he said. “We missed hot laps because I screwed up. I didn’t really know what to expect in qualifying and we were third quickest. We won the heat race and felt pretty good there.”

Dover ranked fourth in event points to garner the fourth starting spot in the A Main.

“On the initial start the guy in front of me didn’t go and we were like eighth or ninth,” he said. “Something happened for a caution and we got a complete restart. I set myself up better and he didn’t take off again. I was in a better position there. I ran third in the beginning and then went to the bottom. My car was really, really good and stuck. We were really good on the exit of the corner. Maybe 10 laps in we were able to get the lead and led probably a half dozen laps. I should have moved up sooner and protected the line up top because that was the predominant line. As soon as I got passed by Austin McCarl I moved up and that was the race.

“I didn’t have the right gear in. As soon as we pushed off I realized what I did and thought we’d be a 15th- or 20th-place car. To come out of there second being 50 points off on gear was spectacular. The gear I wanted would have twisted more RPMs. Also, to go out and run second against guys who have ran a dozen races this year, I’m very pleased with how it ended up.”

Dover also competed on Sunday in a 305ci winged sprint car at Huset’s Speedway.

“I helped build this team for Shawn Loos in the offseason,” he said. “I’ll run it four or five times this year to get it ready for his kid. On Sunday we took off into the lead in the heat race with a good start. We put a straightway on second and the car was working good. A few laps in we had mechanical problems. That sucks, but we’re happy with how the car was for the first night out.”

Dover plans to return to action next Tuesday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., with the High Limit Sprint Car Series.
