Inside Line Promotions – MUSKOGEE, Okla. (July 17, 2023) – Rain interrupted a pair of ASCS National Tour races last weekend for Jordon Mallett, who was in contention for a top-five result on Friday before Mother Nature intervened.

Mallett qualified third quickest in his group before placing second in a heat race at Thunderbird Speedway.

“We’ve really been working on our big track program,” he said. “I felt we were really balanced and I was pleased. I was bummed in the heat race and should have won it, but my car wasn’t any good on takeoff. That was really hurting me.”

Mallett lined up on the inside of the third row in the A Main.

“We started fifth in the feature and had a really good car,” he said. “We just needed green-flag laps. The track was already abrasive and I felt we had a really good race car to run up and at least get ourselves on the podium, but we needed laps.

“We didn’t get the race completed. I was running fifth on Lap 12, but we didn’t make it back to the flagstand when it started raining, which washed out the remainder of the race. I thought it was pretty standup what they did. They were on the RACEceiver saying we have to get some clean laps in to get to Lap 13, which is the halfway point. Everybody was on edge because we weren’t supposed to get paid until we got to Lap 13. We fell a couple of laps short before it rained out, but ASCS said they are paying everyone so I think that was a standup decision.”

Unfortunately, the wet weather wiped out Saturday’s event at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark.

ASCS National Tour races this Friday at Rush County Speedway in La Crosse, Kan., and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., are on tap. Mallett hasn’t been to Rush County Speedway in his racing career. He posted a fifth-place finish at 81 Speedway last month.
