Inside Line Promotions \u2013 WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 18, 2023) \u2013 Kaleb Johnson put himself in contention last Friday during a preliminary night at the Jesse Hockett\/Daniel McMillin Memorial.<\/p>\n
Johnson set quick time in his group and advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race to kick off his preliminary night at the ASCS National Tour marquee event hosted by Lucas Oil Speedway.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were pretty good,\u201d he said. \u201cWe had a good qualifying run and we were solid in a heat race.\u201d<\/p>\n
Johnson lined up on the outside of the second row in the main event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first couple of laps I fell to fifth and then passed a couple of guys,\u201d he said. \u201cI was running third most of the race. We got into traffic. I got close to Jake Bubak for second. I went to the top around Lap 13 going into turn three. A lapped car spun in front of me and a few other cars. I had nowhere to go and clobbered him.\u201d<\/p>\n
The crash resulted in a damaged race car and Johnson restarting at the tail of the field. He salvaged a 15th-place result.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt bent the frame a little bit, but I stayed out there,\u201d he said. \u201cThe handling wasn\u2019t too great after that.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the event finale being postponed from Saturday to Sunday because of rain Johnson made the decision to head home.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust having to drive that far home and with work commitments it didn\u2019t work out, but we\u2019re looking forward to going back to the event in the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
